John Keeton, talented turner and former BAW president, gave a demonstration on lidded bowls at the first meeting of the 2016-2017 year at WoodCraft in Lexington. John provided detailed instructions that are available here or or under the RESOURCES tab.
Club member Rex Guinn is writing a guide to woodturning book. You can find it here: http://rexguinn.net/book/woodturning.html
We had a good time eating and eating and wood turning and playing here on the farm. We concentrated on bowl coring and threaded lid boxes/acorn boxes. Made a mess of the shop but we had fun and the chickens will have fun with all of the chips to scratch through. Here is a link to some pictures: https://goo.gl/photos/yWjUhe8Vie4QGr2h9
Party at our place should be a fun time for families as well as some turning time for new or experienced turners. I don’t have much in the way of demo planned, but I like to make my shop open so that turners can use what tools and equipment I have . . . kind of an experimenting day. I have the Baxter threading, lots of texturing tools. Beal (bring a piece to buff), sharpening jigs and cbn wheels, three lathes (3520b and two jet mini’s, and a third jet dedicated to the Baxter . . . .). Have members/guest call or write to me if they want to do a specific turning task so I can get things ready. We could also do some chains saw work to learn/experiment with cutting blanks.
We will be set up for a scrumptous meal with my bright, happy, sparkling personality . . . Guess we need to coordinate side dishes and will have some beverages. We will provide BBQ pork and hot dogs.

Our home is 2.5 miles South of KY Hwy 150–South of Crab Orchard. Coming from Stanford direction, HWY150E, turn RIGHT on KY Hwy 39 S. Coming from I-75 on 150W, turn LEFT on 39S. (Many GPS’s want to take people north from 150, but that is wrong). From Somerset, HWY 27 to 70E to HWY 39N will get you headed to us. We have a large Hen-Cey Hollow Farm sign near our driveway. We will be standing by with phones if someone needs directions.
ReTurn 2016 at the Arboretum will conclude on Sunday July 10 with a reception at 2-4PM.
If possible, we would like to have at least a couple BAW members doing demo turning at the reception. In order for the activity to be covered by our AAW insurance, turners need to be members of both AAW and BAW.
