BAW Fest & Party – August 13

Uncategorized No Comments
Since Darrel cancelled his turning day, I am opening my shop to all club members and their guests.  We are having a picnic here that day anyway, so we would welcome the turning club to come enjoy the farm, some turning, great food, and my bright happy sparkling personality .. . .
They can come as early as 10 and stay until the moon comes up; we are having music provided by the Lexitones Uke group (Tracey plays) and a wide variety of friends.
All are welcome; I plan to have some turning activities/demos relating to hollowing, bowl turning, and more acorn/thread chasing.  I have a Trent Bosh hollowing jig, and people will be able to give it a demo drive.  People can bring their pieces with the outside turned..if they drill the depth hole, make sure it is at least 1.5 inches for better observation.
We will provide cooked meat–so others can bring what is convenient for them in salads, desserts, chips/dips, etc.  Let’s have another party!

McKeowans’ Picnic – July 16, 2016

We had a good time eating and eating and wood turning and playing here on the farm. We concentrated on bowl coring and threaded lid boxes/acorn boxes. Made a mess of the shop but we had fun and the chickens will have fun with all of the chips to scratch through. Here is a link to some pictures: https://goo.gl/photos/yWjUhe8Vie4QGr2h9

McKeown’s July Fest

Uncategorized No Comments

Party at our place should be a fun time for families as well as some turning time for new or experienced turners. I don’t have much in the way of demo planned, but I like to make my shop open so that turners can use what tools and equipment I have . . . kind of an experimenting day. I have the Baxter threading, lots of texturing tools. Beal (bring a piece to buff), sharpening jigs and cbn wheels, three lathes (3520b and two jet mini’s, and a third jet dedicated to the Baxter . . . .). Have members/guest call or write to me if they want to do a specific turning task so I can get things ready. We could also do some chains saw work to learn/experiment with cutting blanks.

We will be set up for a scrumptous meal with my bright, happy, sparkling personality . . . Guess we need to coordinate side dishes and will have some beverages. We will provide BBQ pork and hot dogs.

Re-Turn 2016

Uncategorized No Comments

ReTurn 2016 at the Arboretum will conclude on Sunday July 10 with a reception at 2-4PM.

If possible, we would like to have at least a couple BAW members doing demo turning at the reception. In order for the activity to be covered by our AAW insurance, turners need to be members of both AAW and BAW.

If you haven’t paid your dues for 2016, now is a perfect time to send a check. We have a newly elected treasurer, Wayne Boian. Annual dues are $25, $30 for family. Send a check to Wayne Boian at 4761 Agape Dr,  Lexington,  KY  40514. Incidentally, if you have friends who might be interested in joining, invite them to one or more of the summer Turn Fests and bring them to a regular meeting.

East piece has a designated value. Buyers have the option of bidding lower than the value in hopes their bid will be highest, or pay the designated price and avoid the possibilty of being out bid.
